Expert Algeria plans, designs, executes and accompanies made-to-measure tours across the Sahara, ranging from three day trips to Ghardaia to three week treks through virgin desert. Here are some of our favourite Saharan circuits:
From Tamanrasset to Djanet
Our tour of Algeria's virgin Sahara starts in the red-walled desert town of Tamanrasset, deep in the Hoggar region, and ends in the Tassili.
Roman Algeria and the Deep South
After unravelling Algeria's Roman ruins, we plunge into the furthest of the Sahara, where the Tassili region around Djanet, including Tadrart, is known for its lofty dunes, stunning rock formations and ancient paintings and engravings.
Crocodiles and Giraffes in the Sahara
Starting from the white-washed oasis town of Djanet, our five day itinerary ranges across the Tassili's intoxicating landscape of palm-groves, wadis and dunes by camel, on foot and by jeep.
From the Mediterranean to the Sahara
This 15 day programme ranges across Algeria from the Mediterranean to the northern Sahara, and includes the walled town of Beni Isguen, deep in the Sahara, and normally closed to foreigners; and El Oued, the Saharan "town of a thousand domes".
THE SAHARA: SO SPECIAL
The rock arches, gueltas and immense dunes of the Tadrart occupy the deep south of Algeria; the kingdom of the M'Zab, with the town of Ghardaia at its heart, lies hundreds and hundreds of miles to the north... yet both belong to the great undiscovered Algerian Sahara.
GARDENS IN THE SAHARA
Sounds unlikely? Well, it's true: Ali has been tending his garden in the furthest reaches of the Sahara - not far from Tamanrasset - for over thirty years.
